Who we are
Greyhound Lubricants (“we”, “us”) operates this website at greyhoundlubricants.com. We are headquartered in South Africa and supply lubricants internationally through appointed distributors. For any question about this policy or about your personal information, contact us at support@greyhoundlubricants.com.
Our designated Information Officer for the purposes of the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) can be reached at support@greyhoundlubricants.com. Our full registered company name, company registration number and registered physical address are available on written request to the same address.
We operate separate South African trading websites at greyhoundlubricants.co.za (lubricants, oils and greases) and greyhoundretail.co.za (automotive retail). Orders placed on those sites are handled under the privacy and ordering terms published there.
What information we collect
- Information you give us. When you complete an enquiry or contact form we collect your name, email address, company name, country, telephone number where you choose to give it, the subject you select and the content of your message. If you request a quotation, technical data sheet or safety data sheet, we collect the product and application details you provide.
- Information collected automatically. Like most websites we record technical data such as IP address, browser type, device type, referring page, the pages you view and the time you spend on them. This is collected through cookies and similar technologies.
- Information we do not collect. We do not collect payment card details, identity document numbers or banking information through this website. This site does not sell products directly.
Why we use your information
We use the information you provide to respond to your enquiry, to send the technical or commercial documentation you have requested, to assess distributor applications, and to keep a record of our correspondence with you. We use automatically collected information to understand how the site is used and to improve it.
Our lawful basis for processing is your consent where you have submitted a form, and our legitimate interest in operating and improving our website and responding to business enquiries.
Cookies and analytics
This site uses a small number of small text files stored by your browser. Some are strictly necessary to make it work: remembering your display preferences, serving pages from cache so they load quickly, and protecting the administrator login against automated attacks. The remainder are analytics only.
For analytics we use Google Analytics 4, provided by Google. It stores anonymous identifiers in your browser (named _ga and _ga followed by our property identifier) which let us see how many people visit, which pages and product families they look at, approximately which country or city they are in, and how they found us. We use this in aggregate only, to understand demand and improve the site. Google acts as a processor for this data and may transfer it outside South Africa; Google’s own privacy terms apply in addition to this policy.
This site carries no advertising, no remarketing tags and no social media tracking pixels, and we do not use analytics data to build advertising profiles or to identify you personally.
Two other third parties may receive your IP address purely because their files load in your browser: amCharts, which supplies the mapping library behind our global network map, and Gravatar (operated by Automattic), which supplies profile images where comments are shown. Neither is used by us for tracking.
You can block or delete these files at any time in your browser settings, and you can install the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on to stop analytics collection entirely. Doing so will not affect how this site works for you.
Who we share information with
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only where necessary: with our hosting, backup and email delivery providers who process data on our behalf under contract, with Google Analytics as described above, and with our appointed distributor in your territory where your enquiry is best handled locally. Where an enquiry relates to South African supply it may be passed to our local operations at greyhoundlubricants.co.za or greyhoundretail.co.za. We may also disclose information where we are legally required to do so.
How long we keep it
Enquiry correspondence is retained for as long as needed to deal with your request and for a reasonable period afterwards for business records. Analytics data is retained according to the retention period configured in Google Analytics. You can ask us to delete your information at any time.
Your rights
Depending on where you are located, you have rights under the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) in South Africa, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in the European Union and United Kingdom, and equivalent laws elsewhere. These generally include the right to access the personal information we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to object to processing, and to withdraw consent.
To exercise any of these rights, email support@greyhoundlubricants.com. We will respond within the period required by the applicable law. If you are not satisfied with our response you may lodge a complaint with your national data protection regulator — in South Africa this is the Information Regulator.
Security
We apply reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal information, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), access controls on our systems and login protection. No website can guarantee absolute security, but we take the protection of your information seriously.
